Tipsy Pig

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and have a sudden urge to eat something delicious. When I'm hungry, I need food that will satisfy my tastes, something IHOP definitely cannot do anymore. If you find yourself in the marina district doing what I do everyday, searching for amazing eats, then I have a place for you. The Tipsy Pig, located in the heart of the Marina, has some breakfast dishes that keep me coming back for more. This place is always busy and I haven't had one item on the menu that tasted bad. You can't always eat alone, so I decided to join my sister and her husband on a reoccurring trip to The Tipsy Pig. Sitting outside is warm and enjoyable, perched underneath the heaters, housed in a greenhouse tent that keeps the cold air out and the heat in. Unfortunately the only thing that bugged me was the uncomfortable wooden chairs that left a print on my butt. Other than that, I was really enjoying myself, soon to enjoy the food even more.

The first dish came out, our Cast Iron Dutch Pancake. A thin Dutch pancake that sat perfectly on a hot skillet ready to enjoy. Knowing that this pancake had maple glazed bacon syrup, made me want it more. With house made sweet creamy ricotta cheese, and diced seasonal fruit, it made the dish. Cut off a piece of the flaky sweet pancake holding the fruit, and add some ricotta cheese and your good to go. Although this dish was delicious, I would have enjoyed it even more without the Bacon maple syrup. I know, it sounds pretty good, but if the pancake with drizzled with original maple syrup, dashed with powdered sugar, and finished off with lemon, it would have made a better pancake. German might have been better than the Dutch.

While I was enjoying my pancake, my main breakfast entree came out. Arriving on my table was the Chive Goat Cheese Scramble. This is absolutely my favorite plate at The Tipsy Pig. Perfectly cooked  fluffy egg whites on thick cut brioche with broccolini, thinly cut prosciutto and lemon buerre blanc. Biting into this open faced sandwich was a trip in itself. There were so many unique flavors that it was hard to pinpoint what i liked the most. Not to mention the buerre blanc, dripping off the sides of the lightly toasted brioche, made me crave more. Lets just say my whole plate was clean in a matter of minutes. While I was enjoying the last of my entree, I let my cravings take over and I ate tater tots that really brought me back. I don't know if they made these fresh, or if they were packaged, but I really did not care. These salty crunchy morsels of potato, with a soft warm inside, were dipped into my favorite condiment, ketchup. It did not matter how unhealthy these tater tots were, I was going to eat every last one of them.

Wow, I really enjoyed my breakfast. This is definitely a restaurant that I can see my self coming back to more than once. Just make sure to call in ahead if you want to enjoy a breakfast as good as the likes of mine.

That's It !

Ever wanted to test your limits and eat the largest sandwich in San Francisco?
When I mean huge I mean it! This monster contains all your favorite foods, jam packed and stacked onto a toasted white bread roll that is sure to hold all the unique flavors of the grill. Only a sandwich like this could uphold a name like "The Cuban". Just run down the streets of the mission and look for the liquor store on the corner. No, we're not picking up Bacardi, its a Monday night! Walk inside of "That's It", glance to your right and order from my newly adopted Latina mother; a sweet woman who knows how to make a flavorful sandwich.

Sitting up at the four stool bar, watching your sandwich being made is almost the best part. The seasoned beef browning on the grill accompanied by a plethora of sizzling bacon, was enough for me to recede into a food coma. Of course there was more. Just fuse eggs together with some spicy chorizo and allow the flavors to melt together for a distinct smoky taste. If you believe that there is already a whole lot of meat, think again. Biting into this monster would not have been complete unless we had more! Throw a few slices of ham onto the grill and fry them up allowing all the flavors of juicy meats to fuse together. Slice into a few hot dogs and let them grill too until we are ready to stack all the meats up and pile them high with mouthwatering jalapenos. Just get ready to smother it all in a homemade chipotle sauce that is sure to kick. Cut into a juicy colossal vine ripened tomato, lay it across the crunchy bed of lettuce dripping with cheese, and get ready to attempt this monstrous meal. Never have I eaten something so delicious and this overwhelmingly big. All I know is that I'll be back here to get my hands on another Cuban sandwich, after I surface from my food coma.

La Mediterranee

If you take a walk down the famous street of Fillmore, many stores and restaurants might draw your attention. While exploring the street, it may be tempting to jam to your favorite artists playing at The Fillmore, or walk into one of the many overpriced boutiques conveniently placed on every street corner, but we all know your looking for the best eats in town. Hey I know your tastes, I can't review all the five star restaurants in town, but I know that this seceded gem of San Francisco will be to your liking. You may recognize La Mediterranee by its small blue over hang, carefully protecting its boastful four table patio, or you may not. This restaurant has been preparing delicious homemade Middle Eastern specialties since 1979, and continues to amaze it's customers everyday. This quaint mediterranean restaurant does not carry your typical mediocre chicken dish. Get ready for an explosion of flavor that most restaurants cannot carry.

Upon arrival I was lucky enough to enjoy a patio view of the street and the San Francisco Architecture; composed of old buildings that harness the culture of the city. Viewing the menu was overwhelming, having to sort through the extensive list of traditional native plates of the mediterranean. It would have been challenging if I didn't know what I wanted, but I always come here for one thing, so the menu's complexity could not set me back. The sandwich that looks nothing like a sandwich was what I was after. In between the thin, carefully wrapped sandwich, was the most flavorful mixture of the most simple ingredients. The Chicken Shawarma cooked to perfection with traditional spices accompanied by a light cucumber dressing created a mouth watering sensation. Bite into this wrap and allow the crisp flakiness of the sandwich to fall onto the well dressed plate and collect on your lips. Accompanying the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich was mediterranean potato salad, mixed with vine ripened tomatoes and dashed with spices. This refreshing chilled side dish balanced the spice of the chicken and temperature of the warm wrap. Not to mention, dip into the hummus on your plate with the homemade warm pita bread and enjoy the tastes of a delicate combination that are sure to please. Finish off your lunch with a few slices of fruit and call it a meal. Don't forget to order a glass of La med's famous sweetened hot mint tea before you journey into the fog of San Francisco searching for your next food destination.
